So Long, Marianne

Here are some pictures of Marianne worse for wear and tear, when her relationship with Mick had crumbled and she began the dark days of the 1970s through her triumph at the end of the decade with Broken English.  Pictured here with Lord Paddy, Oliver Musker and Ben Brierly (and Bowie at his "1980 Floor Show", which was actually in 1973.

Thank you for sharing all of these wonderful pictures!

Well.., YEAH! when my brother passed away, we had to go through even his old grade school and high school photos and he was hardly recognizable from his hard, harsh end.

Drugs and alcohol ( but mostly drugs ) and Hep C, which I understand MF has been diagnosed Positive. Still, it's difficult for me to judge those that have over-indulged? Little was known about Hep C at the time and you didn't have to be an IV user ( although he 'was' ) simply the act of passing a rolled up twenty to do a line was sufficient to pass the disease.

Yes, some of those photos almost should not have been taken. It's clear she may not really have appreciated just what a disaster her life was becoming? Probably thought she was just having a good time, and... people had always been eager to photograph her so why would 'now' be any different? Sad, but thanks for sharing all the same Leith.

thank you so much for all the wonderful pictures, i literally just spent an hour sifting through all the marianne faithfull ones and they're fantastic! countless ones i've never seen before, and it must have taken a lot of time and effort to scan them all. keep up the good work :)

I've never commented before, but I have to say that I adore your blog.

I think Marianne is the original Queen of Re-invention. I know that term is so overused and silly, but it's true for her! She brought herself back with "Broken English" and a completely different voice and look. She went from the most innocent looking girl to a full-fledged imperfect, flawed, but beautiful woman. I must say that I like her cracked voice better... even though the reason that it turned that way is horrible.

Keep posting! You are my favourite blog.

I really enjoyed the pics of Ms. MF that you put together; and it's great that so many others feel the same! She's a fascinating woman who has lived a very public life from the age of 17 on. Very happy to read that she's recovering from covid and hope she's fully back to herself now. C

I've just heard that she's gone into a care home.
She's two years younger than me!
So sad as I've known her for 67 years.

Let’s not mark her off just yet. In the 60s I knew the words to all of her songs. So sorry for the things that happened to her.

Good on you Leith for putting this together, I don't know how much anyone has researched Marianne but I did for posts on Tumblr and she put out quite a few albums over her career and last one was She Walks In Beauty which she recites poetry with music in background, title is poem by Lord Byron, it's not everyone's cup of tea and I think released in 2018. You will hear poetry you probably haven't heard maybe ever or in awhile so I thought I would put it out there for those who didn't know. Cheers from Australia
